Travelers will feel the Chinese culture everywhere, on the streets, Taoist temples, Buddhist monasteries, festivals, restaurants, and museums. Some remains of the Japanese occupation could be seen through the elder people which still remember that period, but mostly in the infrastructures that the Japanese left behind. The population of Taiwan is made of 84% of Taiwanese, 14% of Chinese, and 2% of aboriginal people. A mix of Buddhist and Taoist believes are practice by over 93% compare to only 4.5% of the population are Christians. The official language is Mandarin, but some speak Taiwanese and hakka. |
